Gillie and Marc Schattner
Zebra on Long Rope (orange), 2016
Bronze

Gillie and Marc’s rope series are tactful and sensible in the way they address the issues endangered animals face. The new addition of a zebra revisits the rope series, bringing a new concept with it. Zebras are not the animal of discussion when it comes to endangered species, but it is a fact that their population has been steadily declining due to hunting and habitat loss. The presentation of the zebra is unusual to that of the rhino works; as the zebra clings or hangs on to the rope, illustrating its struggle for survival. Gillie and Marc intensify the plight of the endangered species with their originative technique.
Marc sits on the right and Gillie sits on the left - they paint together and meet in the middle.
