Qu Guangci, 大财神和他的小财神 - Gong Xi Fa Cai (Red/Green), Fiberglass Hand Painted, 38.5 x 13.5 x 13 cm

Looking for the perfect gift while Christmas is rapidly approaching? Look no further: give your loved ones art, and make a thoughtful, personal and very special gift! We catered this selection of small, affordable and contemporary sculptures that will make beautiful presents for both the new and the seasoned art collector.

Bronze works
Bronze may only be third place in the Olympics, but in art, it has long been recognised as one of the most noble materials to works with; and contemporary artists still love to use it - adding just a subtle twist, in colour or technique, to keep it relevant.

Adi Gunawan, My Little Pony, bronze, 24 x 12 x 22 cm

Indonesian artist Adi Gunawan uses curves and rounded figures to create a sense of comfort and warmth. This small sculpture conjures feelings of belonging, safety and happiness: the female character is sitting on the horse, leaning on it for support. It feels like a moment of intimacy, closeness and trust.  The softness of the form - achieved by the curves, the delicate patina and the contemporary spray painting - and the loving message make it an adorable present.

Chen Weng Ling, Red Memory - Stop staring at me, bronze painted, 48 x 20 x 17 cm

Chen Wen Ling's series titled Red Memory features naked, skinny red boys showing exaggerated expressions, with eyes full of mischief in arresting poses. The artist creates irony by playing with expressions and colours. He depicts his little red boys embracing the present moment instead of worrying about the future - such a positive and inspiring message! The bright red colour used to depict the boys is an extremely symbolic colour in Chinese culture - used to represent prosperity, sunlight, politics and blood. It also happens to be Santa’s colour...

Tradition meets contemporary
For collectors who never forget their heritage, but enjoy the contemporary feel of new materials or modern subjects.

Wu Qiong, The Past vanishes like the wind, resin, 41 x 21 x 13 cm

The imagination knows no bounds when it comes to Wu Qiong's work: it transports us into a fantasy world where anything can transpire! Carrying a wistful, magical atmosphere from unknown painterly worlds, he summons old European clothing traditions like ruff collars and tailcoats, and associates them with very contemporary, almost “manga-like” facial expressions. Inspired by Eastern and Western cultures, this portrait is the sum of generations of portraits, and yet the blossoms hint at the fragility and short nature of life. Accept the branch he offers you and seize the day!

Hiro Ando, Monology SamuraiCat Blue, acrylic, 33 x 24 x 26 cm

Tradition and contemporary popular culture are cleverly intermingled in Hiro Ando’s work: his cat motives remind of the famous maneki-neko, the greeting cats bringing luck and prosperity. He also integrates elements of traditional Japanese culture like the Samurai figure, but the cat faces seem inspired by a manga and Hello Kitty aesthetic. Bring home all the paradoxes and richness of Japanese culture with this cute cat!

A touch of quirkiness
Make your Christmas funny and different!

Lee Sangsoo, Three Birds, resin, 28 x 30 x 53 cm

Drawing his inspiration from the innocence and freedom of children’s drawings, South-Korean artist Lee Sangsoo creates out-of-this-world sculptures featuring children’s favorite animals, on which he scribbles with crayons - just the way we started drawing as kids! This type of drawing - that is often discarded by adults as scrawls - becomes meaningful and take on a new dimension. It will also give your interior a very young and fresh touch, in line with the pastel trend coming in 2019.

Qu Guanci, The Angelest, fiberglass candy floss 18.5 x 26.5 x 9.5 cm

These rainbow angels created by Qu Guangci are fusions of Eastern and Western culture: they wear the wings of Western angels but have the faces of people from the orient. Their bright colours will give your interior a lovely pop of colour, and their soft expression, making them angels of loveliness, will bring comfort and joy to your holidays!

We hope this selection was helpful and we wish you all

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
