Nurkholis was born in Jepara in 1969 and received an art education at ISI Yogyakarta. He is currently a full-time artist and is the Director of the Seringgit Artists Community. He has held solo exhibitions in Indonesia, Malaysia and Indonesia and won numerous awards such as the 1992 Indonesia Education and Culture Department Award, The Best Art Award from the Indonesia Institute of Art Yogyakarta, and has achieved two times Finalist Art Awards from YSRI - Philip Morris Indonesia Art Award, and the Asia Prize (Runner Up) from the Beppu Asia Biennale of Contemporary Art 2005, Beppu Art Museum, Japan 2005.
